CARITAS GHANA’S MESSAGE FOR WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY – JUNE 5, 2025

On this World Environment Day, Caritas Ghana reaffirms its commitment to safeguarding our planet and ensuring a sustainable future for all. The theme of this year, “Beat Plastic Pollution: Shared Challenge, Collective Action”, resonates deeply with our mission to protect vulnerable communities and advocate for environmental justice (Pope Francis’ encyclical, Laudate Si’ Care For Our Common Home).

Plastic pollution threatens our ecosystems, our health, and our shared future. As stewards of creation, we must take decisive action to reduce single-use plastics, promote sustainable alternatives, and encourage responsible waste management. Caritas Ghana stands with communities across the nation, working to build resilience through education, advocacy, and direct action.

We call upon individuals, businesses, and policymakers to embrace environmentally sustainable practices. Through collective efforts, we can restore harmony with nature and create a thriving environment for future generations.

The parked sacks contain plastic flakes from the crushed PET bottles. These bagged flakes are then sold to a recycler for further processing.

Our work includes:

♻️ Plastic Waste Pre-Processing Plants in Tamale, Cape Coast, Goaso, and Wa—offering eco-friendly livelihoods and reducing plastic pollution.
🔌 E-Waste Collection Site in Ashaiman—recovering valuable materials while protecting communities from hazardous waste.
🌱 Community tree planting, environmental education, and advocacy for environmental justice and policy reforms.

But to deepen and scale this work, we need partners.

We invite donors, public and private sector actors, and faith-based institutions to join us in forging a greener and more just Ghana—where care for creation is integral to human development, because protecting the environment is protecting life itself.
